I'm soon to be walking around little villages in Mexico collecting trash, thinking about how to glue it together to create a public space with benches and tables.
I'm thinking paper mache style, but I need a glue that will be able to hold in the rain. The inside layers could be paper mache and the outside rubbery glue, and paint.
We can use the glass to make mosaics... and plastic bottles to make a raft or floating island.

Re: creative ideas for platsic trash
Mon, February 26, 2007 - 7:03 AMI visited a project in Honduras-- they build homes out of used 2-liter bottles and they were sturdy and beautiful! Basically you fill the bottles with soil, sand, earth... and they are used like a brick. The columns of the house were made out of old car wheel wells. They had sections in the roof where the colored plastic bottles didn't have dirt in them, so as to function like a skylight. The light comes through the start shaped bottom of the bottles and is gorgeous! On the outside of the house, you can choose to just plaster over the bottles, or not.
